Voiply, a national VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone and internet provider, is stepping in as major telecommunications carriers wind down copper landline service across the United States. Several large carriers have filed federal requests this year to discontinue legacy copper voice lines in dozens of states, a shift that leaves many homeowners and small businesses searching for a dependable replacement. Voiply makes that transition simple, offering residential and business customers a plug-and-play alternative that keeps their current phone number intact.

AT&T has received federal approval to discontinue service across a large share of its copper footprint in more than 18 states, and Verizon has filed separate requests covering millions of additional lines across a similar number of states. National carriers like CenturyLink and Frontier are following suit, along with regional and legacy carriers. Fidium, the fiber brand formerly tied to Consolidated Communications, has submitted its own applications to discontinue legacy copper service in sections of eight states. Lumen has signaled plans to retire copper across additional states, including Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and Montana, through 2029.

The move to retire these wires comes as the aging network becomes more expensive to repair. A Federal Communications Commission order issued earlier this year streamlined the process carriers use to retire copper lines, shortening required notice periods and making it easier to show that a wireless or fiber alternative is adequate.

"Customers are getting letters that their copper line is going away, often with only a few months to figure out what comes next," said Shea Georgetti, CEO and Co-Founder of Voiply. "Thankfully, switching to a landline alternative does not have to mean learning a complicated new system."

Voiply built its VoIP phone service for home and business around that exact concern, aiming to make the move from a traditional line as simple as possible. Voiply, which serves more than 50,000 customers across the United States and Canada, helps customers transition to internet-based protocols with a setup that is designed to take minutes and does not require a service appointment. Voiply plans include Spam protection, voicemail, call waiting, three-way calling, and more.

Georgetti said affordability is a major concern for customers transitioning from traditional landlines, but Voiply's plans are frequently priced below the government-subsidized phone programs available to seniors and low-income households.

"People are surprised that moving to VoIP can actually lower their bill while allowing them to keep the same number they have had for years," Georgetti said.

The company's advantages extend to phone services for small businesses. Voiply pairs number porting with features like voicemail-to-email, call routing, and AI assistants.

As more carriers retire copper lines in the months ahead, Voiply expects the volume of calls from affected households and small businesses to keep climbing. The company encourages anyone who has received a discontinuation notice to compare options before their copper service is scheduled to end, rather than waiting until the final weeks of the transition window. Georgetti said the goal is to make that comparison easy rather than overwhelming. For more information on residential and business phone plans, visit Voiply.com.
